According to the Arkansas Public Service Commission, Arkansas is adding a new 327 area code in February 2024, which will overlap with the current 870 area code. This means that all local calls within the 870 area code must be placed using 10 digits (area code + the 7-digit telephone number). The new area code is needed because the 870 area code is expected to run out of phone numbers by early 2025. The new 327 area code will be assigned to new phone service customers on and after February 20, 2024.
